HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 c127W
Mr. Churchill

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the likely impact on the United Kingdom balance of payments up to the end of the decade as a result of liabilities incurred by the United Kingdom insurance industry in respect of pollution claims arising in the United States of America; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maples

[holding answer 14 June 1991]: As claims are still subject to judgments pending in United States courts it is not at present possible either to quantify the liabilities incurred by the United Kingdom insurers or to estimate the impact on the United Kingdom balance of payments.
