HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 c117W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what budget his Department has for advertising in ethnic newspapers or magazines the services and responsibilities of his Department; and what amount of money has been spent on this publicity in each of the last five years.

Miss Widdecombe

Although the departmental budget for national publicity does not contain a specific amount for publicity to ethnic minority groups, national publicity campaigns take fully into account the need to reach ethnic minorities. In the current year the Benefits Agency has a budget of £205,000 for publicity materials in ethnic minority languages. Expenditure in 1990–91 was £141,592 and in 1989–90 it was £127,239. Figures for earlier years are not available.
