HC Deb 17 June 1991 vol 193 cc32-3W
Mr. Cartwright

to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to provide humanitarian aid and assistance to the people in the area of the self-declared Somaliland republic.

Mrs. Chalker

We do not recognise the "Somaliland Republic". We want to help Somalis in need wherever they are in the country, but insecurity hampers the relief effort. So far this year we have made available £2 million and 8,000 tonnes of food directly to Somalia.
