To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much was paid out in hostel deficit grant to housing associations in England in the last five years for which figures are available; and how many units of accommodation were covered by hostel deficit grant in each of the last five years.

Hostel deficit grant payments to housing associations in England in each of the last five years were as follows:

Information relating to the number of units of accommodation covered by hostel deficit grant payments in each of these years is not available, but currently there are approximately 37,000 bed spaces in respect of which housing associations are able to claim hostel deficit grant.
