HC Deb 17 June 1991 vol 193 c62W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what advice he issues to health authorities about their policy on paying suppliers; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will review payment policy by health authorities to ensure suppliers are paid promptly and within the terms of their credit agreements.

Mr. Dorrell

The national health service management executive has emphasised the need to pay suppliers within an acceptable period of time. It has sent a copy of the Department of Employment booklet, "Prompt Payment Please", a copy of which is available in the Library, to all English health authorities and has the expectation that health authorities will meet their obligations within a reasonable period of time in accordance with contractual requirements and responsible practice.

Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has received about late payment by health authorities to their suppliers, and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

In the last year we have received around a dozen letters concerning late payment from hon. Members and members of the public.
