The Government's policy is that licences will be granted for extraction of aggregate only where this is possible without unacceptable damage to sea fisheries and the marine environment. The fishing industry will be fully consulted on any application. The Ministry will ensure that any application for a licence will be given a careful scientific scrutiny to ensure the protection of fisheries.
