To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is his latest year-on-year estimate for the number of people who are retired before the state retirement age as a result of invalidity.

[holding answer 6 June 1991]: Information is not available on the number of people who retire early on grounds of invalidity.

However, the table shows the number of people receiving invalidity benefit on 31 March 1990 who at the time were within five years of state retirement age.
