HC Deb 13 June 1991 vol 192 cc635-6W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations have been made concerning the disappearance of Roseanna della Casa, and the deaths of Nick della Casa and Charles Maxwell, in the Turkish-Iraqi border region(a) to the Turkish authorities, (b) to the Iraqi authorities and (c) to allied military authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has made and is making widespread representations to try and trace Mrs. Rosanna della Casa. Following representations made by Her Majesty's ambassador at Ankara, the Turkish authorities have extended full co-operation. The senior Iraqi diplomat in London and the Iraqi representatives to the ceasefire talks in Riyadh were asked to help. British embassies in the area made inquiries and sought the help of the Governments of neighbouring countries. We have maintained frequent contact with coalition military forces in northern Iraq. Urgent attempts to find Mrs. Rosanna della Casa continue.

No representations have been made regarding the deaths of Mr. Nicholas della Casa and Mr. Charles Maxwell. The cause of their deaths has not yet been determined.
