HC Deb 13 June 1991 vol 192 cc618-9W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is Her Majesty's Government's policy on the proposal to be put forward by Iceland, Norway and Denmark to the Paris Commission on Marine Pollution in its meeting in the Hague on 17 June, recommending that the disposal of radioactive waste under the seabed be brought within the remit of the commission.

Mr. Baldry

The Government take the view that the disposal of radioactive waste under the seabed accessed from the land is outside the scope of the present Paris convention. However, this issue will need to be addressed at the appropriate time, within the context of the review of the Oslo and Paris conventions which is currently under way.
