HC Deb 13 June 1991 vol 192 c655W
15. Mr. Nellist

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the latest unemployment figures for Northern Ireland; how many of those workers have been unemployed for a year or more; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

At 9 May, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 97,951 unemployed claimants in Northern Ireland. This represents a fall of 1,059 over the previous month. Approximately 49,900 (50.9 per cent.) claimants have been unemployed for over one year.
