HC Deb 13 June 1991 vol 192 c652W
Mrs. Irene Adams

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people were registered homeless in(a) Strathclyde and (b) Renfrew district during the past 12 months for which records are available.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The latest available information relates to 1989–90. During that period, district councils in Strathclyde assessed as homeless 4,901 households who applied to them under the homelessness legislation. The corresponding figure for Renfrew was 359. Approximately 3,000 returns for 1989–90, mostly from Glasgow, are outstanding. It is not possible to say what percentage of the applicants to whom these related might have been assessed as homeless. The 1989–90 returns did not collect the number of persons in applicant households.
