HC Deb 13 June 1991 vol 192 c638W
Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much money has been spent by the Health Education Authority on the "Look After Your Heart" campaign in each of the last three years; and what is the planned level of expenditure for 1991–92.

Mr. Dorrell

"Look After Your Heart", England's coronary heart disease prevention programme, is jointly managed and funded by the Health Education Authority —HEA—and the Department of Health. Spending in the last three years, taking both basic allocations and special grants made during the year, has been as follows:

Year Expenditure
1988–89 4,550,000
1989–90 4,000,000
1990–91 5,500,000

A basic allocation of £5,300,000 has been approved for 1991–92. There are also departmental and HEA programmes for the specific risk factors, such as smoking, which contribute to the work on prevention of coronary heart disease. Additional support is also provided through commerce and industry through the workplace project and the health education work of regional and district health authorities.
