HC Deb 12 June 1991 vol 192 c565W
Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what studies he has undertaken as to the effect on the price of a gallon or litre of unleaded petrol of the abolition of vehicle excise duty and its transfer to petroleum spirit; and if he will set out the likely retail price based on average pump prices for the last quarter.

Mr. Chope

On the basis of that proposition the estimated increase in unleaded petrol would be 33.2 p a gallon (7.3 p a litre). The pump price (average last quarter) might be about 222 p a gallon (48.7 p a litre). The figures for the last quarter do not include the recent budget duty changes.
