To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the steps taken to preserve Hadrian's wall.

Mr. Yeo

Hadrian's wall is a scheduled ancient monument. As such, it is protected by the need to obtain the consent of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for any works within the scheduled area, in addition to any planning permission required.
