To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what was the average weekly civil service pension paid in 1990;

(2) what is his most up-to-date estimate of the number of civil service pensioners;

(3) what is his most up to date estimatee of the number of civil service pensioners in receipt of annual civil service pensions of (a) up to £1,000 per annum, (b) £1,001 to £2,000 per annum, (c) £2,001 to £3,000 per annum, (d) £3,001 to £4,000 per annum, (e) £4,001 to £5,000 per annum, (f) £5,001 to £6,000 per annum, (g) £6,001 to £7,000 per annum, (h) £7,001 to £10,000 per annum, (i) £10,001 to £15,000 per annum and (j) £15,001 and above.

The average weekly civil service pension paid in 1990 was £25.70. The number of civil service pensioners as at 31 May 1991 was 509,634 of whom 46,408 were in receipt of weekly paid pensions. It is estimated that the number of civil service pensions, within the indicated bands as at 31 March 1991, were as follows:
