To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) whether the United Kingdom is involved in the high-altitude endoatmospheric defence interceptor programme;

(2) whether the United Kingdom is involved in the development of the theatre high altitude defence system;

(3) whether the United Kingdom is involved in the extended range interceptor system for short-range defence;

(4) whether the United Kingdom is involved in the ground-based surveillance and tracking system;

(5) whether the United Kingdom is involved in the ground-based free electron laser programme in collaboration with the United States of America.

All the systems referred to are elements of the United States strategic defence initiative programme. British firms and other institutions are given opportunities in all areas of the SDI programme.
