To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has any plans to give financial aid to the Welsh plant breeding station, Gogerddan, Aberystwyth, during the next three years; and if he will make a statement.

The funding of new facilities at the Welsh plant breeding station are as detailed in my reply to the hon. Member on 12 March 1991,Official Report, column 449–50.

In addition the station, which is part of the Agricultural and Food Research Council's institute of grassland and environmental research, will continue to receive support from the AFRC science budget funds, currently estimated at approximately £2.5 million a year.
