To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what are the latest figures of applications made under the Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979; and how many cases have been successful or are still under consideration.

Between 1979 and 31 May 1991, 3,447 applications for vaccine damage payments were received. Of these, 848 awards were made, 72 are still under consideration and 44 have been referred at the claimant's request to the independent vaccine damage payments tribunal.
