§ Mr. GorstTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will issue a visa to Mr. Ramesh Kumar to enable him to visit the hon. Member for Hendon, North, to one of whose constituents he is married, so that the hon. Member can represent him personally at his appeal against refusal of a permit to reside in this country; what precedents exist for denying an hon. Member access to foreign citizens; and on how many occasions and for what reasons such denials have occurred.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI will write to my hon. Friend as soon as possible on the question about the issue of a visa to Ramesh Kumar. Her Majesty's Government do nothing to deny an hon. Member the right to approach foreign citizens. However, for personal contact to be made in the United Kingdom the foreign citizen must meet the requirements of the immigration rules.
