HC Deb 10 June 1991 vol 192 c434W
Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what type of food the EC's 400,000 tonnes of aid, decided on in April, will consist of; and what is the value of the food in ecu and pounds sterling, respectively.

Mrs. Chalker

Food provided under the Community's special programme for Africa will consist mainly of cereals and grain such as wheat or wheatflour, maize, rice and sorghum.. The programme will also include quantities of vegetable oil, pulses and sugar. The cost of the 400,000 tonnes programme is estimated at 140 million ecu—about £97.5 million.
