HC Deb 10 June 1991 vol 192 cc442-3W
Mr. Rowe

To ask the Secretary of State for Health which district health authorities have the longest average waiting time for the specialties which cover(a) hip replacement operations, (b) cataract corrections and (c) hernia operations.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The latest available information, at September 1990, for those waiting for in-patient treatment, is given in the tables. The tables have been compiled on the basis of the percentage of patients waiting more than one year which is the generally accepted measure of waiting time. Direct comparisons between specialties at district health authority level can be misleading because there are considerable variations of case mix within different hospitals.
