§ Mr. KennedyTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to publish a green paper in line with "The Health of the Nation", as released for consultation by the Secretary of State for Health; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythI have already published on 25 March, after an extensive period of consultation, "Health Education in Scotland: A National Policy Statement", copies of which were placed in the Library. The statement identifies our priorities and sets challenging targets for improvements in health in Scotland. It describes the role of the health education board for Scotland, which was established on 1 April 1991 to lead the health education effort in Scotland, and sets the framework within which the board, health boards, local authorities, voluntary organisations, employers, the media and individuals can work together to secure the health improvements we seek. I expect to take further initiatives which will be announced in due course.
