HC Deb 07 June 1991 vol 192 c382W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what advice he gives to farmers about diversification in the countryside if they wish to develop motor-cross training areas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

Under the Agriculture Act 1986 there is no charge for general advice to farmers on diversifying their businesses into non-agricultural activities. Such advice is given within the context of the farm's resources, its location and the objectives of the farmer. Activities such as the provision of motor-cross training facilities normally require planning permission and as such, farmers will be advised to consult their local authority, whose responsibility it then is to approve or reject such projects.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what financial aid is available in the United Kingdom for the breeding and rearing of greyhounds as part of the diversification of agriculture; and whether he has made any such payments.

Mr. Gummer

No such aid is available in the United Kingdom. No such payments have therefore been made.
