HL Deb 06 June 1991 vol 529 cc47-8WA
Baroness David

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many ballots there have been by sixth form colleges on possible applications for grant-maintained status; what was the result in each case; how many of the colleges have chosen to take up grant-maintained status and whether the parents of pupils at these sixth form colleges are to be given any choice over whether the colleges opt out of LEA control.

Baroness Blatch:

One sixth form college has held a ballot on whether to apply for grant-maintained status. Parents at Blackpool Sixth Form College voted against seeking GM status. It is the Government's intention to seek parliamentary approval for the transfer of all sixth form colleges to the new further education sector on 1st April 1993.
