§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures he has taken to ensure that all polling booths are accessible to disabled people.
§ Mrs. RumboldI assume that the hon. Gentleman means polling stations rather than polling booths. As he is aware, district and London borough councils in England and Wales have a statutory obligation to place polling stations in buildings which are accessible to disabled people, wherever this is practicable. My officials last wrote to councils in December 1989 to remind them of their duty in this respect and will do so again shortly.
