HC Deb 04 June 1991 vol 192 c181W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the operation of standard assessment tasks.

Mr. Fallon

Consultations have recently opened on the statutory orders on testing for next year. Copies of the consultation documents have been placed in the Library. My right hon. and learned Friend has emphasised his commitment to review this summer's operation before deciding on the exact form of tests for next year.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will appoint extra teachers to primary schools where standard assessment tasks are carried out.

Mr. Fallon

The appointment and deployment of teachers is a matter for local education authorities.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what consultations he has had with(a) teachers and (b) head teachers concerning standard assessment tasks.

Mr. Fallon

My right hon. and learned Friend has had extensive discussions with teachers and head teachers on this issue, and will continue to do so.
