Mr. O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends to offer advice on charges for water services following the introduction of a return to rateable values of properties; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

There are no proposals for a return to the rating system. The director general intends to give guidance to companies about methods of charging for water services in the light of the recent consultation exercise.

Mr. O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when the final report on the compulsory water metering trials will be published; and if he will make a statement.
