Mrs. Gorman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will show separately for men and women the numbers of(a) heart attack cases and (b) stroke cases treated by the national health service in each of the last five years for which figures are available; and if he will estimate the cost to the national health service of treating these patients.

Information on the numbers of cases treated in NHS hospitals with a main diagnosis of heart attack or stroke are given in the tables.

Financial returns of health authorities do not identify costs of specific treatments and operative procedures.
