HC Deb 03 June 1991 vol 192 cc85-6W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of life sentence prisoners who were released for each year since 1981; and what was the number in each year whose release was proposed by the Parole Board and turned down by him or his predecessors.

indecent assualt, (d) false declarations, (e) unlawful sexual intercourse and (f) any other criminal offence, and, in the case of (f) above, what the offence was.

Mr. John Patten

[holding answer 23 May 1991]: Information is not available centrally on the number of licensed taxi and private hire vehicle drivers who have been found guilty of re-offending.

Data are not collected centrally on the profession of offenders convicted of violent and sexual offences. The following table shows the number of offenders found guilty from 1985 to 1989 in England and Wales under Acts relating to hackney carriages and private hire vehicles only. Similar information is not collected centrally by the Northern Ireland Office or the Scottish Office Home and Health Department.

Mrs. Rumbold

[pursuant to her reply, 22 May 1991, c. 480]: The number of people released on life licence in 1990 from prison service establishments was 80, not 81 as stated in the earlier reply.
