HL Deb 03 June 1991 vol 529 c28WA
Lord Wade of Chorlton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the average profitability per cow for milk producers with 10 cows or more in the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland and Italy respectively in 1988–89, 1989–90 and 1990–91.

Baroness Trumpington

Information on the profitability of milk producers is not available in the form requested. However, details of average herd size and dairy farm income in the UK are available from the Farm Business Survey. The relevant results, for 1988–89 and 1989–90, are published in Table 4.12 ofFarm Incomes in the United Kingdom: 1991 Edition, a copy of which is available in the Library. Limited data on net value added per farm and family farm income per unit of unpaid labour for dairy farms in 1988–89 by member state are given in Table 3.2.3 of the Agricultural Situation in the Community 1990 report, which is also available in the Library. The basis for presentation of information by member state is different from that used in Farm Incomes in the UK. Comparable information for later years is not available.
