HC Deb 03 June 1991 vol 192 c51W
15. Sir David Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether there has been an increase or a reduction in the services provided by InterCity as against the performance objectives set in the past two years; and if he will make a statement on the future investment proposals of British Rail in this respect.

Mr. Freeman

Improving services remains one of InterCity's key objectives. InterCity fell short of its punctuality and reliability targets in the last two years. The electrification of the east coast main line, which will be completed next month, will bring a significant improvement. It will in turn allow InterCity to redeploy trains and resources to other routes. I am sure that improved quality of service will continue to be a part of InterCity's investment proposals wherever it is commercially justified.
