To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what immigration facilities were provided at the British Aerospace aerodrome at Hatfield, Hertfordshire, on the weekend of 18–19 May for the visit of General Augusto Pinochet; how many members of the Chilean party were admitted through those facilities; whether any were refused admittance; and if he will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what immigration procedures were followed during the visit to Britain of General Augusto Pinochet to Britain on 18 May.

On arrival at Hatfield on 18 May, General Pinochet was accompanied by 11 Chilean nationals. By arrangement under paragraph 1(1) of schedule 2 of the Immigration Act 1971, entry was granted by two officers from Her Majesty's Customs and Excise, St. Albans.
