HC Deb 03 June 1991 vol 192 c93W
Sir David Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether there has been any change in his plans for the provision of a replacement dental school and postgraduate institute in Edinburgh.

Mr. Lang

The Government have endorsed the proposals of the McCallum working party for a dental hospital and postgraduate dental institute in Edinburgh. As Lothian health board is currently reviewing its acute service strategy there may be implications for how these proposals can be implemented. Any revised strategy will require the consent of Ministers. That will not be given unless Ministers are satisfied that the changes proposed would lead to a better standard of care and, therefore, be in the interests of patients.
