§ Mr. HendersonTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many people in the United Kingdom in 1990 were taxed on use of company cars; how many claimed tax on cars under schedule D; and how many were liable for car mileage tax under the fixed profit car scheme.
§ Mr. MaudeIt is estimated that, in 1990–91, about 2 million people were taxed on the private use of cars provided by their employers. Approximately the same number claimed tax relief for cars against schedule D income tax liability. A reliable estimate of the number who were liable to tax under the fixed profit car scheme is not available.
