HC Deb 03 June 1991 vol 192 c30W
Mr. Henderson

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many people in the United Kingdom in 1990 were taxed on use of company cars; how many claimed tax on cars under schedule D; and how many were liable for car mileage tax under the fixed profit car scheme.

Mr. Maude

It is estimated that, in 1990–91, about 2 million people were taxed on the private use of cars provided by their employers. Approximately the same number claimed tax relief for cars against schedule D income tax liability. A reliable estimate of the number who were liable to tax under the fixed profit car scheme is not available.
