HC Deb 25 July 1991 vol 195 c837W
Mr. Henderson

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what action he proposes to take to encourage the spread of hearing aid-compatible telephones.

Mr. Redwood

The licences issued to the public telecommunications operators British Telecommunications, Mercury Communications Ltd. and Kingston Communications (Hull) plc under the Telecommunications Act 1984 require them to ensure that telephones for the hearing impaired are available to meet all reasonable demands. The licensees are also required to install facilities for the hearing impaired in all their public call boxes.
