The most recent figures published by the Council of Mortgage Lenders show that, for the United Kingdom as a whole, there were 16,560 repossessions in the six months ended 30 June 1990, and 27,330 in the six months ended 31 December 1990. Total repossessions in 1990 affected less than 0.5 per cent. of borrowers.
