Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how he intends to improve the quality of service to people living both in hospitals and the community who suffer mental handicap.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

The all-Wales mental handicap strategy seeks to do precisely this, as will our proposals for its future development which we intend to publish shortly.

Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list his proposed changes to the all-Wales strategy for people with a mental handicap; if he will indicate the period for comment on those proposals; and if he will give an assurance that he will continue to provide ring; fenced funding for the strategy.

We intend to publish our proposals shortly, including the timetable for comments.
