§ Mr. CryerTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the number of fatalities in the manufacturing industry in the United Kingdom and each EC member state for the years 1980 to 1990 giving the work force in each case; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ForthThe information requested cannot be made available without disproportionate cost. Relevant information for major EC countries is contained in a recent Health and Safety Executive publication, "Workplace Health and Safety in Europe" which is in the House Library. This publication, which provides a rigorous comparison between countries which operate different reporting systems shows that the British record on accident rates stands up well in comparison with other major countries in the European Community.
