HL Deb 25 July 1991 vol 531 cc69-70WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What measures they and humanitarian agencies are taking to provide essential food and health care for the Kurdish population of Iraq to the east of the former "safe haven", including those who have lately returned from Iran.

Lord Cavendish of Furness

Britain is playing a leading role in a European Community initiative to provide technical assistance, food and shelter to displaced people in North-East Iraq. Teams of health care workers, water and sanitation experts, and engineers are currently being assembled for departure for Iraq aver the next few weeks. The project will take place under the auspices of the United Nations, who are continuing to provide help for those in need under their own relief programmes.
