HC Deb 25 July 1991 vol 195 cc925-6W
Sir David Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his plans to offer empty married quarters at Barton Stacey for sale; if he will set out the timetable for the sale; and what are his proposals on the future of Army houses where the offer for sale to service personnel is not taken up.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Fifty-one married quarters at Barton Stacey have been identified as surplus to our long-term requirements and will be offered for sale to service personnel through the services discount scheme. Some of the houses to be sold are still occupied. Those already vacant will be offered for sale as soon as the details can be drawn up for publication in the sales bulletin and the remainder will be offered for sale as soon as they become vacant. Any houses not taken up under the discount scheme are normally offered for sale on the open market at full market price, but depending on the number of quarters available the possibility of a bulk disposal in this particular instance cannot be ruled out.
