HC Deb 24 July 1991 vol 195 cc696-7W
Mr. Maginnis

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the full-time and part-time strength of the Ulster Defence Regiment; and how many full-time medical officers and full-time trained welfare officers are attached to the regiment.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

On 1 July 1991 there were 2,994 full-time and 3,501 part-time members of the Ulster Defence Regiment. Although each Ulster Defence Regiment battalion has one part-time medical officer on its establishment, only two of the nine posts are currently filled. Each Ulster Defence Regiment battalion has one part-time welfare officer, although they also have other duties. There is also a regimental welfare officer.
