HC Deb 24 July 1991 vol 195 c595W
Mr. Ken Hargreaves

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate has been made of how many jobs would be created by a national lottery.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

It seems likely that a national lottery would create new jobs, but no estimate has been made. This is one of the matters included in the Government's further consideration of the arguments for and against allowing one or more privately run lotteries on a national scale.

Mr. Ken Hargreaves

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many representations he has received concerning a national lottery.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

In the 12 months to 30 June 1991, we received letters from 28 hon. Members or Peers, and 158 from members of the public or organisations, 19 of which were from the same person, the majority of which advocated a national lottery.
