HC Deb 24 July 1991 vol 195 c667W
Mrs. Gorman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what responsibilities local authorities have to relieve the nuisance caused by long grass being cut and left in situ on roadside verges by council employees; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

I have been asked to reply.

Grass on roadside verges is cut by highway authorities for safety purposes. If the grass has grown very long, particularly in an urban situation, good practice guidance is that the cut grass should be removed.
