HC Deb 24 July 1991 vol 195 c693W
Mr. Salmond

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are usually taken by his Ministry to prohibit a company trading in fowl after the discovery of infection in the trading company's stock.

Mr. Maclean

Under the Government's salmonella control programme laying flocks of domestic fowl infected with Salmonella enteritidis and breeding flocks of domestic fowl infected with Salmonella enteritidis or Salmonella typhimurium are placed under movement restrictions and are compulsorily slaughtered with compensation.

These controls can apply to other species if there is a public health risk from the sale of eggs for human consumption.
