HC Deb 24 July 1991 vol 195 c657W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration he intends to give to examination of the health effects of product use when evaluating the packaging of a product for qualification for an eco-label.

Mr. Baldry

Eco-labels will primarily be awarded on environmental grounds. There are well established health and safety regulations in place which ensure that consumers are informed about products and their packaging that are potentially damaging to health. If a product had a demonstrably detrimental effect on human health, it is unlikely that it would meet the criteria for the award of the eco-label.
