To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish tables showing for each EC and OECD country for which data are available(a) the estimated per annum cost to public funds of tuition and student maintenance in respect of courses of United Kingdom first degree standard, (b) the average length of courses in each country, (c) the wastage rate and (d) the cost per qualifier to public funds of tuition and student maintenance for each successful graduate.

4 Ministry of Education expenditure only.

5 Qualifiers data include post-graduates.

6 New entrant data consists of first year students.

7 Public sector qualifers and public expenditure on public colleges only. Includes a residual of private funding. Excludes estimated private funding of tuition fees and boarding costs at public colleges.

8 Excluding expenditure and students on nursing and paramedical courses at Department of Health establishments. Also excludes in service teacher training secondments and costs.

9 Excludes tuition fees £1,240 per home full-time student.

10 Four years in Scotland.

11 Estimated public expenditure on public colleges only. Excludes federal tax contributions.

12 Excludes 2 year courses some of which may equate with a level below higher education.
