HC Deb 23 July 1991 vol 195 cc516-7W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what technical assistance the United Kingdom has offered to the Soviet Union to clean up radioactive pollution.

Mr. Baldry

The Government are participating in the programmes of international agencies, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency, to provide technical expertise and resources to assist the Soviet Union to handle the effects of the nuclear accident at Chernobyl. Also, United Kingdom companies are competing for contracts to clean up and redevelop the areas affected by radioactive pollution from Chernobyl.
