To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what trends have been identified in the numbers of pupils from state schools and private schools going to universities.

The table shows the proportion of school leavers from maintained schools and from independent schools in 1984–85, 1986–87 and 1988–89, whose intended destinations were degree courses at university.
