HC Deb 22 July 1991 vol 195 cc354-5W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance his Department has issued to local education authorities and grant-maintained schools on the use of school premises for party political events; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

None. Under the Education Acts, responsibility for the conduct of schools and the use of their premises lies with school governing bodies. At elections, candidates have the use of school buildings for meetings, free of charge and at reasonable times, under the Representation of the People Act 1983.
