To ask the Minister for the Civil Service how many next steps agency chief executives have been appointed through open competition.

Mr. Renton

The Government's objective in appointing agency chief executives is to get the right person for the job. Open competition is now the presumption and 29 of the current chief executives have been recruited in this way.
